The Providence Journal: Medical Bills Can End a Music Career. This RI Group Helps Keep the Music Playing.
How Tune In Tune Up Is Helping Rhode Island Musicians Access the Care They Need
Tune In, Tune Up was featured in The Providence Journal in an in-depth article by Jack Perry exploring the challenges musicians face when accessing health care and how Tune In Tune Up is helping keep the music playing.
The September 19 feature highlights the story behind TITU, including the serendipitous meeting between co-directors Dr. Al Puerini and Don “DC” Culp that helped bring their shared vision to life: making health care and essential resources more accessible to musicians and music professionals.
Through financial assistance, connections with compassionate health care providers, and access to reduced-cost services, Tune In Tune Up helps address a range of needs, including medical, dental, vision, and behavioral health care. The organization also provides assistance with groceries and other essential personal needs.
The article shares the stories of musicians whose lives and careers have been affected by this support, illustrating how access to care can make a meaningful difference. It also highlights TITU’s commitment to prevention and education, encouraging musicians to prioritize their health through good nutrition, exercise, rest, hearing protection, and other healthy habits.
As co-director Don “DC” Culp explains, the goal is simple: “We want to make it hip to be healthy.”
At Tune In Tune Up, we believe the people who bring music into our lives deserve access to the care and support they need to keep doing what they love. We’re grateful to Jack Perry and The Providence Journal for shining a light on this mission and the Rhode Island music community.
